Giving Up Your Dog
If you need to find a new home for your dog, please complete an online
Surrender Questionnaire.
A volunteer will call you in 24 hours or less. We will talk to you in
detail about the dog, its behavior, and your reasons for surrendering
the dog.
If we think we can find a new home for your dog, we will make an
appointment to meet and evaluate the dog. We are located in the State of
Colorado and you will be asked to bring your dog to an area for us to
meet the dog for evaluation. At this time we will decide whether or not
we will accept your dog.
We require medical records and history before a dog is accepted into the
organization. You will be required to sign a Pet Surrender/Release form
and provide us with all medical records of the dog. You will also have
to sign a statement to the fact that the dog has not bitten anyone.
If your dog has bitten or is aggressive towards other dogs or people we
may not take your dog. An aggressive dog will need counseling and
training and that will be your responsibility to cover all fees involved
in retraining not to be aggressive. Please do not pass an aggressive dog
onto someone else. It is your responsibility to retrain the dog.
Any dog rescued by us will be well taken care of and a forever home will
be found. All dogs are taken to the vet for a checkup, updated with
shots, heartworm tested, spayed/neutered. There is no fee to surrender a
dog to us, but a donation from you would be greatly appreciated to help
off-set the medical costs.
IMPORTANT: WE WILL NOT AND DO NOT ACCEPT PIT BULLS OR PIT BULL/MIXES.
