History:
Chihuahua & Small
Dog Rescue, Inc. was founded in October 2005 in the State of Colorado
with main office being located in Colorado Springs, CO. Prior to the
start of Chihuahua & Small Dog Rescue, Inc., Sue Fisher, President, was
a volunteer for Chihuahua Rescue & Transport, Inc. At first Sue was just
a volunteer doing home visits and helping with transport. Then she
volunteered as the Colorado Coordinator. Since Chihuahua Rescue &
Transport didn’t have a strong presence in Colorado, Sue decided to
start Chihuahua & Small Dog Rescue, Inc.. However, before she started
the organization she researched what volunteers liked and disliked about
the organization's they where fostering for. She made a list of all the
dislikes and the likes and decided that Chihuahua & Small Dog Rescue,
Inc. would not do all the things that she was told that were dislikes.
The organization was started! Over the past 2 1/2 years Chihuahua & Small Dog
Rescue, Inc. has become a strong rescue organization in the State of
Colorado and now is very proud of the alliances, references and
credentials that have been earned. We do at times take in owner
surrenders, as long as there is complete documentation that the owner is
the legal owner of the little one they are surrendering. 98% of all
rescues that are taken in are from shelters. When we receive a little
one from any source, we ensure that all the proper paperwork to give us
legal ownership of the dog is in order.
Chihuahua & Small
Dog Rescue, Inc. will help other rescue organizations in anyway
possible. We will help with transport, help other new organizations get
started; help organizations make contact with shelter managers. We are
here to help whenever we can. This organization is all for the dogs, no
matter what breed.

The PACFA License
requires a yearly inspection of all paper work and conditions of all
organizations that transfers more than 24 dogs between March 1 and March
1. We had our first inspection by Colorado Department of Agriculture in June
2006. At that time we received our PACFA License, we did not receive a
single penalty, violation, citation or warning. Our second year
inspection was in July 2007 and again we did not receive a single
penalty, violation, citation or warning. Our documentation for
each and every dog was over and above what the law requires. Every dog we rescue
is fully documented, vetted and treated with the utmost care.
Chihuahua & Small
Dog Rescue, Inc covers the entire State of Colorado. We have volunteers
as far north as Loveland, CO, south as far as Pueblo, CO and
in between. We also have volunteers as far west as Glenwood Springs and
as far east as Byers, CO.
Finally, heaven
knows, we are not making money! Bills are high for the dogs we have
taken in who need care. Our goal is to try and break even – to provide
care and the best possible homes for these wonderful little dogs.
To our supporters, thank
you! We thank you, our volunteers thank you and the many dogs saved
thank you with every small dog smile!. We
promise you we will continue and we will be here for a very long time.
